Poem by Ashley Fay

It was there all along,
in every film, in every song.

In every book, on every show,
all the things we didn’t want to know.

It was there all along,
In every politician, in every law.

Every line on paper drawn,
Some complicit, some just fawned.

It was there all along,
in every university, in every hall.

In every company, in every charity,
a million faces of the enemy.

It was there all along,
in every article, on every blog.

On every broadcast sent worldwide, covert, temporal genocide.

It was there all along,
on every team, in every sport.

Entertain a front to make it real,
clowns perform on a ferris wheel.

It was there all along,
in the roman churches singing songs.

Even in the mosques and synagogues, truth concealed by demagogues.

It was there all along,
on every bank note, on every card.

On every transfer that was made,
our coffins, nailed in by fate.

It was there all along,
in every pill, and every shot.

In every appointment that we booked, information that they took.

It was there all along,
in every war, and every conflict.

Every agency, and every spy,
a smokescreen for the truth of time.

It was there all along,
on every app, in every post.

In every distracted selfie that we chose, a surveillance culture taking hold.

It was there all along,
under every building, on every road.

Tunnels deep beneath them hold,
secrets that were never told.

It was there all along,
standing too close.

We were charmed, we were raised in their arms.

It was just too sad to see,
this has been planned for both you,
and for me.

A prison experiment is what we’re in, and I bet that they thought they’d win.

But, just when they think we’ll fall, we will get back up and undo it all.
